There's a quiet scramble happening in marketing departments right now, and it's not about social media calendars anymore. As more people get answers from ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI assistants instead of search engines, brands are realising they need to be visible inside AI responses — not just on page one of Google. That shift has spawned a new discipline called generative engine optimisation, or GEO, and it was the theme of a global product debut in Singapore this week.

Emergine, the rebranded evolution of KAWO's GEO arm, chose the What'sNEXT 2026 conference in Singapore as the venue for its official worldwide launch on Aug 6. The platform is built by the team behind KAWO, a social media intelligence service used by more than 500 major brands, and it helps companies monitor how they're referenced across AI ecosystems — from global models to local ones. Alongside the launch, Emergine previewed a research cheatsheet on GEO citations for mainstream AI models, produced with GrowthBox and released on Aug 5, based on thousands of real AI interactions across industries.

The timing makes sense. Singapore has positioned itself as a testbed for AI adoption across industries, and marketing is one of the fastest-moving. Local agencies and brands have been experimenting with AI-generated campaigns and chatbots for customer service, but the next layer — understanding how AI systems decide which brands to cite when answering a question — is only starting to be taken seriously. That a China-born martech company picked Singapore ahead of other Asian hubs for its first overseas launch says something about how the city is viewed as a gateway for AI-forward business tools.

The study Emergine previewed digs into a real problem: AI models are increasingly the gatekeepers of brand discovery, yet the mechanics of how they select, evaluate and reference sources remain opaque to most companies. For marketers in Singapore, that means the skills that mattered for search engine optimisation are being joined by a new set — understanding citation patterns, prompt behaviour and how different models weigh brand mentions. Early movers who figure this out could end up as the default answers in their category.

Why it matters for Singapore: Product launches like this reinforce Singapore's role as the launchpad of choice for AI-driven business software in Asia — a pattern that's been accelerating through 2026 as global vendors pick the city for regional debuts. For local companies, the practical takeaway is simpler: if your customers are asking AI assistants about your category, the question of whether you show up in the answer is now a business decision, not a technical curiosity. Expect GEO skills to show up in agency job listings and marketing budgets here within the next year.
