Anthropic to open Singapore office in October, hiring locally

Anthropic will open its doors in Singapore this October and staff the outpost with local hires, betting that appetite for Claude keeps climbing. Residents of the city-state are among the most enthusiastic users of the assistant anywhere, measured against population size.

The company's Economic Index puts the Republic in second place across 121 markets, with usage landing at 5.81 times the level you would expect from its footprint. Dale Finlay, who serves as Anthropic's general manager for ASEAN, takes charge of the Singapore operation. Hiring covers artificial intelligence, finance, sales, marketing and economic research.

Once running, the site becomes Anthropic's fifth in Asia-Pacific, alongside Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul and Sydney. Independent ventures, digital-first companies, big corporates and the public sector are the target clientele. The company points to Singapore's talent base, its research strengths, its role as a crossroads for international commerce and its emphasis on deploying AI responsibly as reasons for the move.

The launch thickens a cluster of frontier labs already rooted here, with OpenAI and Google DeepMind both operating in the country. Money ties run deep too: sovereign wealth fund GIC is a major backer and led a US$30 billion Series G raise for Anthropic in February 2026, a deal that valued the company at US$380 billion.

Why it matters for Singapore: A fifth regional office from a top-tier AI developer validates the country's pitch as a place to build frontier technology, not merely buy it. It also shows a policy bet paying off, since regulators here have pushed responsible adoption while keeping the door open to global players. Rivals will read the move as a signal that Singapore is now a default staging post for AI expansion across the region.
