AutomationSG Launches TIA-Ready Framework to Help Singapore Deploy Trusted Industrial AI

Singapore's manufacturing sector — still 21 per cent of GDP and the backbone of the economy — is getting a governance framework designed specifically for AI on the factory floor. AutomationSG, the trade association representing Singapore's automation, IoT, and robotics sectors, launched the Trusted Industrial AI Ready (TIA-Ready) Framework, giving manufacturers a structured pathway to deploy AI responsibly in operational environments without needing an enterprise-wide AI transformation.

TIA-Ready is use-case scoped, meaning a company can start with one defined AI application — predictive maintenance on a single production line, machine vision for quality inspection, or AI-assisted engineering — and work through a staged pathway of Managed, Governed, and Ready stages. Before any data is collected or any model is built, companies define the intended purpose, foreseeable unintended uses, affected decisions, accountability structures, operational boundaries, and acceptable risks. The framework has undergone validation with two SME pilot companies, JM Vistec System and CADVision Systems, and is benchmarked against ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for AI management systems.

The launch comes at a pivotal moment for Singapore's industrial AI governance landscape. Days earlier, IMDA released a Digital Twin for Enterprises Playbook, Transparency Guidelines for Generative AI Chatbots, and new privacy-enhancing technology guidance covering federated learning — part of the Singapore Data Festival announcements on July 20. Together, these initiatives form a layered governance ecosystem: national-level guidance from IMDA, sector-specific implementation via AutomationSG, and training partnerships with institutions like Singapore Polytechnic, which will deliver the first Industrial AI and Governance Literacy programme from October 2026. AutomationSG CEO Saw Biing Huei framed the philosophy clearly: "Trusted AI does not start with the dataset or the test result — it starts when management decides what AI should be used for, what it must not be used for, and what risks the organisation is willing to accept."

The framework addresses a genuine gap in industrial AI governance. Digital twins, AI-enabled robotics, predictive maintenance, and machine vision combine data, software, and physical operations where an AI output can influence production decisions, equipment behaviour, quality, safety, and customer commitments. Traditional IT governance frameworks do not account for physical safety risks, and pure AI ethics frameworks do not address operational technology constraints. TIA-Ready connects management intent, data governance, testing, and deployment within one bounded industrial use case, guided by a steering committee drawn from across the industrial ecosystem. The approach is designed as an accessible stepping stone for SMEs that need a structured first step before pursuing higher-assurance requirements like full ISO certification.

As AI moves onto the factory floor — from quality inspection to autonomous material handling — companies need trusted ways to deploy AI without introducing safety or operational risks into physical production. TIA-Ready gives Singapore's manufacturing ecosystem, particularly the hundreds of SMEs that form the supply chain backbone, a practical on-ramp to industrial AI governance that doesn't require a full enterprise transformation. For a nation that frames Smart Nation as both digital and industrial, frameworks like TIA-Ready are the connective tissue between policy aspiration and factory-floor reality.
