Singapore is pouring over S billion into AI research and talent between 2025 and 2030, but for the thousands of hawkers, café owners and small restaurant operators fighting to stay afloat, that national ambition can feel a world away. Homegrown loyalty platform STAMPEDE is trying to close that gap — by building AI-powered retention tools that work so quietly in the background, a busy hawker doesn't need to know they're using AI at all.
STAMPEDE has created more than 11,000 free, claimable business pages for F&B establishments across Singapore. Owners can claim their page at no cost, set up a fully branded digital loyalty programme with stamp cards, referral rewards and coupons, and only pay when they activate a paid plan — starting at S0 per outlet per month. Customers join by scanning a QR code through any phone browser in under 30 seconds, with no app download required. Behind the scenes, AI-driven retention campaigns learn from customer behaviour to send the right message at the right time — from win-back nudges to birthday rewards — and deliver a weekly report in plain language explaining what happened and what to do next.
The initiative lands at a precarious moment for Singapore's F&B sector. Between January and October 2025, 2,431 retail food establishments closed their doors, with 63% having been registered for five years or less and 82% of that group never recording a profit. STAMPEDE is betting that customer retention — getting people to come back, stay rewarded and bring friends — is the lever that F&B operators can actually pull, unlike rent or ingredient costs. Early results from four brands across 21 outlets are striking: more than 16,000 loyalty members gained, over 1,500 completed referrals and 4,600 coupon redemptions in under four months.
The numbers that matter most come from the ground. Shang Cha, a tea brand that discovered STAMPEDE through the online directory and self-onboarded, turned off the platform's AI-driven messages for one week as a test — and watched returning customers drop by 30% before switching everything back on. That's the kind of concrete, measurable impact that matters far more to a small business owner than any government white paper on AI adoption. STAMPEDE has effectively productised AI retention in a way that meets F&B operators exactly where they are: busy, cost-sensitive, and allergic to dashboards.
Why it matters for Singapore: The national AI strategy is only as strong as its reach into the everyday economy. STAMPEDE's approach — making AI invisible, affordable and immediately useful — is a model for how Singapore can translate its billion-dollar AI ambitions into tangible benefits for the thousands of small businesses that form the backbone of the country's food culture and community life.
