Sea Limited, the Singapore-based technology conglomerate, intends to take its Monee payments and financial services division public and is preparing a separate enterprise AI venture called Sea Cloud, according to a company memo reviewed by Reuters. Founder Forrest Li circulated the note on Oct 20.

Monee already serves customers in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan and Brazil. Its products span mobile wallets, payment processing, plus credit and banking services. Sea had not answered media queries about the memo when this story was filed.

In Li's telling, a public listing would give the fintech business deeper pockets and more room to expand at a quicker clip than it manages today. He timed the announcement to a milestone: nine years since Sea's shares began trading in New York. Group revenue per quarter, he noted, has swelled beyond an 80-fold gain, hitting US$7.8 billion.

Hiving off Monee would give the payments unit its own shares to fund growth and let investors value it on its own terms rather than as part of a wider group. Sea Cloud plants the company in a crowded enterprise AI field dominated by global cloud providers. Together the two moves suggest Southeast Asia's biggest internet firms now view AI tooling and fintech as their next fronts.

Why it matters for Singapore: Sea ranks among the city-state's most prominent homegrown tech names, so both a fintech spin-off and a fresh AI platform play out on local turf. Singapore's policy direction leans hard into AI adoption, digital payments and helping local firms scale across the region, which gives ventures like these a supportive backdrop. A clean separation would also burnish the country's reputation as a springboard for AI and financial technology companies chasing Southeast Asian growth.
