Singapore data centre operator SC ZEUS has signed onto a three-way pact with a SoftBank subsidiary and a Malaysian high-performance computing firm to build AI data centre infrastructure across Southeast Asia. The deal is a window into how Singapore-based players plan to supply the region's AI compute build-out — increasingly from outside the city-state's own power-constrained borders.
The memorandum of understanding, effective August 1, brings together SB Telecom Singapore (a unit of Japan's SoftBank), Singapore's SC ZEUS Data Centers and Malaysia's Robust HPC Group, with initial deployments focused on Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. Each partner takes a defined role: SC ZEUS sources land and designs, builds and operates core data centre infrastructure; Robust HPC handles procurement, setup and management of high-performance GPU clusters; SB Telecom Singapore manages data hall fit-out, ICT integration, localised deployment support and connectivity.
Together the trio plans AI Factory solutions and will explore GPU-as-a-Service and AI Token Factory commercial models. The planned facilities feature liquid cooling, 800 VDC power architecture and low-latency networking — the specifications hyperscalers now expect, but which remain scarce across much of emerging Southeast Asia.
The pact follows a familiar pattern: as Singapore tightens the levers on its own data centre growth, neighbouring hubs like Johor, Bangkok and Jakarta are racing ahead on capacity. Rather than compete from the sidelines, Singapore-headquartered operators are exporting their expertise — land acquisition, design standards, operations — into those markets while keeping connectivity, capital and coordination at home.
Why it matters for Singapore: Compute availability is the binding constraint on AI ambitions across the region, and this deal keeps a Singapore-based operator in the loop of that build-out. It reinforces the city-state's positioning as the nerve centre of Southeast Asia's AI economy — headquarters, capital and connectivity here, concrete and GPUs elsewhere — and gives local data centre expertise a regional growth path that sidesteps domestic power and land limits.
