Temasek-Backed Temus Acquires Thinking Machines Data Science to Scale Enterprise AI Across Southeast Asia

Temasek-backed digital transformation firm Temus has made a strategic investment in Thinking Machines Data Science, a Filipina-founded AI company and OpenAI's first official services partner in Asia Pacific, marking one of the most significant cross-border AI capability plays in Southeast Asia this year. The deal brings together Temus' 500-strong transformation delivery infrastructure — anchored in Singapore and aligned with the country's Smart Nation and National AI Strategy — with Thinking Machines' decade of on-the-ground AI deployment experience across the region.

Founded in Manila in 2015 by Stephanie Sy, Thinking Machines has trained over 10,000 professionals in AI and delivered hundreds of production-grade AI systems for clients across financial services, retail, conglomerates, and the civic sector. The company operates offices in Manila, Singapore, and Bangkok, and holds OpenAI advanced partner status — a recognition of its track record deploying large language model solutions in complex, real-world environments across Southeast Asia. Under the deal, Thinking Machines will continue to operate under its own brand and leadership as 'Thinking Machines Data Science, a Temus entity.' Sy joins the Temus leadership team as managing director of the combined Applied AI and Data division.

The investment connects two specific capabilities that have remained stubbornly separate across the region: Temus' strength in full-stack transformation — spanning cloud engineering, consulting, design, and its AI Foundry launched in May 2026 at the Asia Tech x Summit — and Thinking Machines' proven ability to build data platforms and deploy enterprise AI systems that actually hold up under real operating conditions. Temus CEO Sng Ren Yeong framed the deal as solving the gap between 'how AI is built and how it is made to operate at scale,' noting that many enterprises struggle to run AI systems that work within constrained data environments, regulatory requirements, and complex workflows.

The timing is significant. Southeast Asia's enterprise AI market is entering a phase where the initial wave of pilot projects must convert into production-grade deployments, and the gap between proof-of-concept and operational AI remains the region's central challenge. Temus, established by Temasek in 2021, has built its practice around government and regulated-industry clients — healthcare, defence, financial services, education — where that production-grade requirement is non-negotiable. Thinking Machines brings a decade of hard-won knowledge about what it takes to make AI work in the specific regulatory and infrastructure conditions of Southeast Asian markets.
