Zero Gravity is putting S$20 million into Singapore to set up its global base, with part of the AI firm's research aimed at helping badminton players perform better.

Zero Gravity is committing S$20 million to Singapore, and part of that bet lands on the badminton court. The AI firm will anchor its worldwide operations in the city-state, with a research thread probing whether intelligent systems can lift how badminton athletes train and play.
Singapore has become a default landing pad for AI companies chasing an Asian foothold, helped by its funding climate, talent pool and connectivity. Zero Gravity now joins that queue, shifting its top-level management footprint onto the island as it scales up. Deals of this shape have grown common, but the size of the cheque still registers in a market this small.
The S$20 million covers more than office space. A slice is set aside for experiments into performance gains for players, an application of AI that remains relatively undeveloped. Badminton is a niche target, though an instructive one: elite play turns on fine margins of footwork, timing and shot placement, exactly the sort of pattern work that machine reasoning is meant to interrogate.
Sports is an odd flag to plant for an AI outfit, yet it makes a tidy testbed: rules are fixed, success is measurable, the audience is broad. Should the work pan out, Zero Gravity walks away with a reference case that is easy to explain, and the local AI scene picks up a fresh vertical. It also pushes the conversation past chatbots and back-office automation, into domains where data is messier and payoffs less obvious.
Why it matters for Singapore: The republic is in a hard race to be the region's AI capital, and every headquarters win strengthens that pitch. Securing a global base alongside applied research keeps the ecosystem's momentum running, and signals the country can pull AI capital aimed at problems well beyond mainstream enterprise software.
